Death and Dying Retreat

December 9 - 10, 2023

LMB is delighted to be able to offer this special opportunity from renowned teacher Geshe Sherab.

“Death and Dying” aims to offer participants a deeper, spiritually grounded understanding of death. Geshe Sherab will provide the knowledge, meditation practices, and spiritual wisdom necessary to navigate this universal experience with grace, mindfulness, and a profound appreciation for the spiritual journey beyond. By engaging with these teachings and practices, attendees will gain insight into the impermanence of life and find solace in the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism when facing death, both for themselves and for loved ones.

Topics covered during this workshop will include:

  • Understanding the Stages of Death: Participants will be introduced to the stages of death as elucidated in Tibetan Buddhist teachings. This includes a comprehensive understanding of the phases that an individual goes through during the process of dying.

  • Guided Death Meditations: Through guided meditation sessions rooted in Tibetan Buddhist practices, participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with what to expect at the time of death. These meditations will draw on ancient wisdom to provide a unique perspective on this transformative experience.

  • Preparing for Death: The event will emphasize the preciousness of human rebirth and the profound opportunity it offers to progress spiritually. Attendees will explore the concept of karma, the importance of virtuous living, and the spiritual preparations for death according to Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

  • Normalizing Death: In the context of Tibetan Buddhism, participants will delve into the concept of impermanence and how the ‘I’ essentially dies from moment to moment. This perspective will provide a profound insight into the nature of existence and the impermanence of the self.

  • Prayers and Practices for the Deceased: Participants will be introduced to Tibetan Buddhist prayers and rituals to perform when a loved one passes away. These practices aim to guide the deceased through the afterlife and provide solace to the living.
