The Nature of Reality: A Heart Sutra Retreat
With Geshe Tenzin Legtsok
November 27 - 29, 2026
Led by Geshe Tenzin Legtsok
Friday – Sunday, November 27 – 29
In-Person in the Gompa and Online via Zoom
Join us for a weekend retreat exploring the Heart Sutra, one of Buddhism’s most profound and celebrated teachings on the nature of reality.
“Form is emptiness; emptiness is form.”
Emptiness can sound abstract—or even like it means that nothing exists. But the Heart Sutra points to something much richer: that nothing exists completely on its own. Our lives and experiences arise through an intricate web of causes, conditions, relationships, and interdependence.
Even modern discoveries in quantum mechanics have challenged some of our ordinary assumptions about a solid, independently existing reality. While Buddhism and physics approach these questions in very different ways, both invite fascinating questions about what is actually real—and whether things are quite as they appear.
Over this weekend, we’ll explore these ancient teachings not simply as philosophy, but as something we can bring into everyday life. Through teachings, contemplation, and meditation, we’ll examine how understanding emptiness can help us loosen rigid thinking, meet difficulties with greater openness, and deepen our compassion for others.
When we begin to see how profoundly interconnected we are, wisdom and compassion naturally come together.
This is a weekend retreat, so lodging is provided. Free vegetarian lunch is included for all in-person registration.
