Clearing the Ground: Karma, Mind, and the Art of Dying Well

With Venerable Losang Gendun

November 6 - 8, 2026

We carry more burden than we know. The habits of the mind, the weight of past actions, the fears that surface when we sit in stillness — most of us spend a lifetime working around them. This retreat invites us to work with them instead.

This weekend retreat offers a rare opportunity to look honestly at the interior life and transform three of its greatest challenges into a path to freedom: karma, the afflictions, and death.

Karma describes the living relationship between our intentions and our experience. The Mahāyāna practice of the four healing powers works directly within that relationship — moving us away from guilt and fate and onto a genuine path of purification. Of letting go. Unskillful emotions arise when karma subtly warps our perception of reality. Seen clearly, the afflictions are not enemies to be suppressed; they are the natural response of a mind gripped by distorted views. That understanding is itself liberating. It becomes the ground of trust from which we can question our habitual patterns and gradually transform suffering into wellbeing.

Death and rebirth are the raw materials that shape all of life, in every moment. They are the great forces of renewal and change, and they also create the space in which the most tender and intimate moments of our existence unfold.

The retreat is structured around experiential sessions, alternating practice and reflection. An hour of teachings each evening will offer context and guidance, and each evening will close with a Vajrasattva purification practice, an opportunity to genuinely release what burdens us and redirect our lives toward greater clarity and kindness.
