A vacation is great, a yoga retreat is even better!
Whether you’re a beginner or longtime practitioner, come join us for a weekend of Iyengar Yoga with Denise Wendler. Enjoy healthy vegetarian cuisine, yoga, meditation all while immersed in the serene and tranquil redwoods of Santa Cruz.
Leave with a relaxed mind and body and clarity on the daily practices that will help relieve stress and promotes innumerable benefits for your future.
Using physical alignment as a starting point, Iyengar Yoga encourages the spread of intelligence throughout the body, the growth of self-awareness, and an experience of the asanas as a form of “meditation in action.”
Classes are sequenced to promote health and skill in the body and stability in the mind.
Yoga is union—the union of mind, body, and spirit. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali lay out an eight-step path towards this spiritual fulfillment. Iyengar Yoga, firmly grounded in ancient tradition, guides modern students along this eight-fold path in a way that’s practical, experiential, and intensely personal. In B.K.S. Iyengar’s unique teachings, the yoga asanas and Pranayama (the control of the breath) create the springboard that allows students to penetrate beyond the outer, physical layers and explore the inner layers of mind, energy, and spirit. The two quests of the physical and the spiritual are not separate but interdependent parts of a total approach to self-mastery and enlightened living.
Denise Wendler was fortunate to study with the Iyengar family in Pune at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute. In 2007, she passed her third certification exam in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, becoming an Intermediate Junior I instructor. In 2018, she completed a 3 year Therapeutic Teacher Training program through Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics. In 2019, she completed the 4 Module course on the Yoga Sutras in Study and Practice through the Vidya Institute.
Denise’s classes draw faithful students who appreciate her encouraging spirit and patient instruction. She teaches classes, workshops and retreats all over Northern California and beyond and enjoys working with students of all abilities and ages. Her goal is to not only coach people to greater physical strength and flexibility, but also to guide them toward a focused center of self-awareness, for that is where all great journeys begin.
She is a CIYT (Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher), a C-IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists) and an RYT 500 (Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance)
