Beginning on August 20
and continuing Thursday mornings thereafter at 10:30 via Zoom,
Jon Landaw
will present
Training Our Minds, Changing Our Lives.
In each of these connected, but also stand-alone sessions, the emphasis will be on exploring how we can put the guidelines for cultivating loving kindness and compassion into realistic and effective practice in our everyday lives. His Holiness the Dalai Lama often says that, although the world’s spiritual traditions may differ from one another in their underlying philosophical views and beliefs, they all come together on one point: the genuine purpose of all of them is to help us become better human beings.
And whether we follow one or another of these various traditions—and even if we do not subscribe to any of them at all—we can intuitively recognize that the more we can cultivate open-hearted loving-kindness for one another, the better off we—and the entire world—will be.
I am not offering these sessions because I am an expert in applying these thought-training (lo-jong) instructions. On the contrary! Although I have been studying them for half a century, I have come to recognize how limited my attempts to apply these instructions to my everyday life have been. At the same time, however, I have become even more convinced of their necessity and unparalleled value, especially during the conflicted age in which we now live.
So please come join me as, together, we will explore the ways in which we can cultivate these open-hearted qualities and gradually overcome the destructive influence that narrow-minded self-centeredness has on our lives.
More information about this series will be posted on the LMB website in the following weeks. And if you have any questions or comments, you are encouraged to email them to me at . Thank you.
