This is the continuation of the FPMT Basic Program course on the Special Insight section of the Middle-Length Lam-Rim by Tsongkhapa. We just have a few more classes to finish up the topic by the end of July.
This course is taught by senior monk, Venerable Steve Carlier (Thubten Sherab), who is fluent in Tibetan and works from the original Tibetan texts to prepare these classes. Ven. Steve has been away for a few months, in part to lead the annual one-month lam-rim course at Kopan Monastery, our home monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. There were 252 people attending that course. Returning to Land of Medicine Buddha at the end of January, Ven. Steve resumes an in-depth exploration of the Special Insight chapter of Lama Tsongkhapa’s Middle-Length Lam-Rim, i.e, Stages of the Path.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama explains, in How to See Yourself as You Really Are:
Reflecting on how an object is a dependent-arising – arising dependent on causes and conditions, dependent upon its parts, and dependent on thought – greatly helps to overcome the sense that it exists in and of itself. However, if you do not figure out exactly what phenomena are empty of – what is being negated – then at the end of this analysis you will feel that the object does not exist at all.
Come find out what this means.
