This course, taught by senior monk, Venerable Steve Carlier (Thubten Sherab), will run through May, June, and July, once a week.*
It will cover the Special Insight (Tib. lhak-tong; Skt. vipashyana) section of Lama Tsongkhapa’s Middle-Length Lam-Rim, a text which covers the wisdom topics in a different way from the famous Lam-Rim Chenmo by the same author.
Here is a quote by Khensur Jampa Tegchog, with whom Ven. Steve studied and for whom he interpreted for many years, excerpted from a course given at Nalanda Monastery, France, 1988:
Higher seeing [i.e., special insight] is a mind that does not only abide upon the virtuous object without interruption but is also able to analyse the object in great detail. When calm abiding is attained, the joy of “extreme training” of the body and mind arises, and this joy is intensified when higher seeing is attained. With higher seeing one can see more than with calm abiding alone.
* Due to the instructor being out of town on Monday, May 13, class will be held on Thursday, May 16, instead.
