It is very typical of Tibetans to do the whole Nyung-nay retreat during Sakadawa, or even a series of 8 Nyung-nays during the first two weeks of the month of Sakadawa. On this occasion, the full moon day celebrating the enlightenment of Shakyamuni Buddha and remembering his passing away, we will do one full session of the Nyung-nay so that you can learn how it goes. Keeping the Eight Mahayana Precepts for one day (24-hours) will also give you a taste for the Nyung-nay (in which the fasting precepts are kept in a stricter way).
The afternoon will keep us busy with the Extensive Medicine Buddha Puja, a practice which Lama Zopa Rinpoche has advised us to perform once every 5 weeks at Land of Medicine Buddha. Being the full moon of Sakadawa, our merit will be multiplied by one hundred million. See more about multiplying days here.
Thank you for registering in advance.
UPDATE: Because this is a special holy day, the director has decided to offer lunch as a gift from the center to the students. You should still register so the kitchen has a count. The practice day itself is also being offered by the center as a gift to you. You are invited to make donations (Gift of Dharma) online or in person. Thank you for doing the practice.
Registration closes at noon on Thursday, May 19, for the sake of kitchen planning. If you attend without registering, you will need to wait until others get their food first before going through the lunch line.
