New Year's Mantra-thon

Thu Dec 31, 2015 to Fri Jan 1, 2016!

10am to 10am

with brunch to follow at 11am

We are doing something different this year for New Year’s Eve…

Ksitigarbha Mantra-thon

a 24-hour marathon of the Ksitigarbha Practice with mantra recitation.

There will be 24 sessions – one each hour followed by a 10-minute break – from 10am on December 31st to 10am on January 1. You are welcome to join in any number of the sessions; just arrive at the top of the hour to get your seat and text. Most of the session consists of quiet recitation of the long mantra.

Brunch will be available to those who register (see below), at 11:00am, January 1st, 2016. Please sign up by noon, Dec 30, so the cook can make preparations.

You don’t need to pre-register for the mantra sessions, but please do let us know if you plan to stay for brunch.

Ksitigarbha – Earth Potential

The accumulation of the Ksitigarbha long mantra is one of the instructions that Lama Zopa Rinpoche has given us to do by the end of January in order to pacify the harm of impending earthquakes. Ksitigarbha, whose name means Earth Potential (or from the Chinese, Earth Store), is an enlightened being who helps us purifying negative karma in relation to the environment, among other things.

See more about Earthquake-Pacifying Practices here, including links to the mantra and related materials.
