UPDATE – July 16, 2017: There are no more single rooms available. Only a limited amount of accommodation is still available: in a shared room (1 space in women’s dorm) and in a few spaces in yurts (at the hike-in campground). And commuting is still an option (many spaces).
Bhagavan with equal compassion for all,
Whose name, when merely heard, dispels the suffering of lower realms,
Dispeller of disease and the three poisons:
I prostrate to Medicine Buddha Lapis Light.
Medicine Buddha, (Tib. Menla, Skt. Bhaishajya Guru) is just one of numerous manifestations of enlightened mind (dharmakaya), showing up in a divine form to benefit sentient beings.
Medicine Buddha made special pledges to help sentient beings in many ways, including those who have obstacles with success in their life, those with mental afflictions, those who are sick, and also the dying, helping them at the time of death, leading them to his pure land. For that reason, Medicine Buddha is a preferred practice to do for people who are dying and while they are in the bardo (intermediate state between this life and the next).
It is said in the scriptures that in the degenerate times of this eon, such as now, the blessings of the Medicine Buddha becomes more powerful. The sadhana practice of Medicine Buddha is a way for us to develop the same qualities, to attain the state of Medicine Buddha, a completely purified being with all realizations.
