Lam Rim – the stages of the path to enlightenment – is a system of clarifying the teachings of the Buddha and showing how to practice in a step-by-step way. The Lam Rim gives us a road map for our study and practice – a way to make sense of all the volumes of Buddhist scriptures and commentary. When we understand the Lam Rim, we understand how all the Buddha’s teachings fit together as a practice for a single person, i.e., ourselves.
This weekend will consist of meditation sessions, using a simple sadhana – set of recitations and meditations – to integrate the stages of the path into our hearts. After a concise review of the main points of each stage, we will sit in contemplation in order to have our own experience of that particular teaching of the Buddha.
This weekend retreat fulfills the practice element of Discovering Buddhism course 3: Presenting the Path.
Anyone who has done DB3 at any time, at any center, or even as home study, is welcome to attend this retreat. Also welcome are Dharma students who have a general background in Lam Rim, such as from attending classes on the Lam Rim Chenmo, etc.
