Sat, June 8

We are very pleased and honored to announce the visit of Jangtse Choje Rinpoche to Land of Medicine Buddha for the first time. Jangtse Chöje is a title which indicates that this lama is in line to become the head of the Gelug lineage, i.e., the Ganden Throne holder. The western students who have received teachings from this Jangtse Chöje Rinpoche have found him to be very clear and thorough.

Jangtse Choje Rinpoche will bestow a teaching and initiation (jenang) on June 8, Saturday.

10.30am   Buddha Nature – Various ways in Buddhism to describe the potential each of us has to achieve the state of a Buddha.

3pm   Initiation (jenang) of “Chenresig who Liberates from the Three Lower Realms” (Chenresig ngen song kun drol)

ngesungkundrol

About the Initiation:

Update!
If you are planning on attending this above initiation, since it is from the Action Class of tantra, please keep a vegetarian diet today, with no ‘black food’ – no onion, garlic, radish, eggs, (include cakes or cookies with eggs).

This initiation can be taken as a blessing. There will be no commitment. If you wish, it is good to recite the great compassion mantra: om mani padme hum.

This initiation (jenang) includes three deities: Chenresig, Tara, and Ekajati. Some of the benefits, according to the FPMT Education Department booklet:

You will be more aware of opportunities to help sentient beings, and your skill in helping them will increase. You will be a more complete bodhisattva and will experience the blessings of Avalokiteshvara’s holy body, speech, and mind… The benefit of Green Tara practice is that everything you do becomes more successful. Whatever you, as a bodhisattva, want, Tara will help… Ekajati, or Blue Tara, brings power to your practice, destroying spiritual obstacles and obscurations.

About the Lama:

Born in Tibet in 1934, Rinpoche was ordained as a monk at the age of seven. He entered Sera Jey monastery at seventeen and obtained his Geshe Lharampa degree in 1979. Following this, he entered Gyume Tantric University and two years later became Master of Discipline. In 1985 His Holiness the Dalai Lama appointed him abbot of Gyume Tantric Monastery, a position he held for 6 years. Since then he has taught extensively in India and the West. In 2010 he was appointed to the position of Jangtse Choje, which places him second in line for the position of Ganden throne holder (Ganden Tripa), who is the head of the Gelug tradition.
