ABOUT TALK
Tantra is a provocative and often misunderstood word which, in Buddhism, describes the transformational abilities of the body and mind to use energies and emotions that would otherwise be problematic. Dive into the profound psychology of tantra and see what resonates for you. This public talk will include time for questions as we as an introductory tantric meditation.
If you are able to join us in person this is a great opportunity to meet Venerable Yönten who is newly joining LMB’s team. Please feel free to stay after the talk has ended for chai tea and cookies, and to meet & greet Ven. Yönten.
ABOUT TEACHER
Bhikshuni Lozang Yönten is an American-born Buddhist nun in the Tibetan tradition who was ordained in 2003. A practicing Buddhist since 1994, Venerable Yönten moved to Chenrezig Institute in Australia and studied intensively under Khensur Rinpoche Geshe Tashi Tsering (Lharampa Geshe from Sera Je Monastery and former Abbot of Gyü-me Tanric College) from 2002 – 2009, completing their Buddhist Studies Program. She then continued to study, retreat and offer service at Dharma
Centers in India and Taiwan as well as Australia and New Zealand, becoming an In-Depth Registered Teacher within the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) in 2012.
Ven. Yönten was the Resident Teacher of Kunsang Yeshe Retreat Centre in the Blue Mountains of Australia from 2012 – 2015 before becoming teacher-in-residence six months of the year at Mahamudra Centre for Universal Unity in New Zealand until 2018. She has just arrived to Land of Medicine Buddha to be one of our resident teachers for six months out of the year, to allow her to honor her other teaching engagements worldwide.
Currently, Ven. Yönten divides her time as a touring teacher and retreat leader, as well as annually offering the Buddhadharma from a secular perspective in Israel as a member of the Buddhist faculty for a seven-year post graduate program called Human Spirit which is a Buddhist Psychoanalytic Training Program.
Land of Medicine Buddha is honored to have her joining the team as our newest addition of teachers. We know that new and long term students will enjoy her open and informal style. She is the type of teacher to encourage questions and debates, and is looking forward to meeting all who are involved with the community of Land of Medicine Buddha. For more info. on Ven. JOIN US FOR A MINI-RETREAT! This retreat will be an extension of the Friday night evening talk and will use Chenrezig sadhanas as the basis for in depth meditations to deepen our wisdom and compassion. The practice includes prayer recitation, chanting, mantra and visualization as well as some analytical meditation. The retreat itself will include explanation of tantra practice and time for questions as well as personal break time practices to enrich your daily life experience of Chenrezig. This will be a great way to create inner harmony and connection with yourself and your potential as well as a skillful way to have more compassionate presence with others.
