Ven. Yangchen’s Sunday Morning Guided Meditations bring together a refreshing and precious combination of simplicity, depth, and accessibility. These weekly, hour-long sessions are of great relevance and value to long-term Buddhist practitioners as well as to complete newcomers to the Buddhist path. No doubt this is partly thanks to the wisdom, warmth of heart, and straightforward sincerity with which the meditations are delivered …
We invite you to join Ven. Yangchen live online this Sunday on Land of Medicine Buddha’s Facebook page. It’s a wonderful way to make a meaningful and healing start to your Sundays. Seize this opportunity! At the event start time, to join online, please go to: https://www.facebook.com/LandofMedicineBuddha/live/
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE MEDITATION:
In-Person – Come a little early to find a meditation cushion or chair so you can let yourself settle in.
At home – Find a space where you won’t be disturbed. You may prefer a comfy chair or perhaps a meditation cushion.
The meditation leader, Ven. Yangchen, will give a brief explanation of how to adjust your mental and physical posture. Then we will start with concentration meditation, focusing our awareness on the breath.
After a quick break approximately midway through to stretch our legs and make any needed adjustments, we sit back down for another 15-20 minutes of contemplation on various Dharma topics – lessons taught by the Buddha and the centuries of later Buddhist masters.
ABOUT VEN YANGCHEN:
Ven. Yangchen has a deep and enduring connection with Land of Medicine Buddha (LMB). She took monastic ordination here in the LMB Gompa (Meditation Hall) from Ven. Choden Rinpoche in 2001. Prior to becoming a nun, she had visited the Center frequently to volunteer, as well as to attend various residential retreats, including the three-month Vajrasattva Purification Retreat Lama Zopa Rinpoche led here in early 1999.
After taking monastic vows, Ven. Yangchen dedicated a lot of time to focusing on study and retreat, and for ten years spent every summer studying with Geshe Lhundub Sopa at Deer Park Buddhist Center in Wisconsin. She also spent time helping to establish LMB’s sister center, Shantideva Meditation Center, in NYC. Alongside her traditional Buddhist studies, Ven. Yangchen has a deep respect for Western Science and its relationship to Buddhist thought. She appreciates how powerfully impactful the meeting ground between these two disciplines can be for some students of Buddhism.
Ven. Yangchen spent seven years living at LMB and she also spent time living at Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s house, offering service.
“Lama Zopa Rinpoche is heart-family for me. There is so much kindness and connection there…Rinpoche is incomparably kind. I learned, and learn so much from being around Rinpoche, just watching Rinpoche … I have had the great good fortune to have met my most kind holy gurus, really amazing holy teachers in this life, all due to the kindness of Lama Zopa Rinpoche.”
