Teaching on the 12 Links of Dependent origination.

The Buddha’s first teaching on the Four Noble Truths describes the dissatisfactory nature of our current, unenlightened way of living, what causes us to remain in such a state, and then explains a state beyond all problems and the method by which we can attain such freedom.

As a further elaboration on the Four Noble Truths, the Buddha described the Wheel of Life;  a means to understand the steps involved in our continual cycling in a state of imperfection. This image depicts the twelve-part process of dependent arising showing  how our actions, clouded by ignorance, propel us from one rebirth to another, and keep us trapped in a seemingly endless circle of suffering and dissatisfaction.

Join us as Venerable Tenzin Namjong explains the nature of Samsara and Nirvana. This retreat will explore the various levels of suffering and dissatisfaction that we experience so that we can begin to fundamentally shift our outlook to aspire to true freedom. By understanding what causes us to experience the dissatisfaction of life again and again, we can understand the means by which we can permanently break free through cultivating the wisdom that sees reality as it is.

The retreat will include teachings, guided meditations, and question and answer. Students of any experience level are welcome.

We are so pleased to be able to have Venerable Namjong in person for these teachings. We recommend that you join us in person if you are in the local region (unless you are unwell). Zoom will only be available for the three teaching sessions starting at 9:00 am, 11:00 am and 3:00 pm each day. The morning and evening meditation sessions will not be available on zoom.

About the teacher:

Born and raised in Hawaii, Venerable Tenzin Namjong studied and trained in Zen and Theravada Buddhist traditions before embracing the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, due mainly to the kindness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Princeton University and has been part of the 19-year Geshe (Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy) study program at Sera Je Monastery in Bylakuppe in South India since 2007. Venerable Namjong is a registered teacher of the FPMT and regularly teaches at FPMT centers around the world.
