The Benefits of Tara Practice

by Lama Zopa Rinpoche (Kopan 1987)

“… Tara can solve many problems in your life: she can liberate you from untimely death; help you recover from disease; bring you success in business; help you find a job; and bring you wealth. When you have a really serious problem, such as a life-threatening disease, if you rely on Tara, commonly you will be freed from that problem, or you will recover from that disease… These are common experiences… Tara’s meditation practice is quick to grant success in obtaining the ultimate happiness of enlightenment. You receive much good merit, the cause of happiness. It prevents a suffering rebirth in your next life; you receive initiation from millions of Buddhas; and you achieve enlightenment. Remembering Tara, singing praises, and reciting mantras at any time of the day or night protects you from fear and dangers and fulfills all your wishes. Tara is particularly quick to grant help…”

Information  About Texts

Ven Samten will be performing the Chittamani Tara Puja in Tibetan. The main Four Mandala Offerings to Chittamani Tara text is found in FPMT Essential Prayer Book, Volume 2, or you may obtain a pdf of the Four Mandala Offerings to Chittamani Tara Practice (by donation of your choice) from the FPMT shop at this link.

When preparing your texts to follow along with the Tibetan, please do note that Ven. Samten engages in some preliminaries prior to commencing the main Tara Puja.

  1. Venerable commences with the Praise to Shakymuni Buddha, which can be downloaded for free here  .
  2. He then recites the Ganden Lhagyama (Hundred Deities of Tushita) which can be purchased in pdf format very affordably from the FPMT store here

After these preliminaries, Ven Samten commences the Puja, which is dedicated to the female Buddha Tara: she who embodies the wisdom and compassion of all enlightened beings.

We will be doing this practice especially for Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche’s long and stable life and the success of all his activities. We also dedicate to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and all our Holy Gurus.

Wednesday is considered a special day for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as it is his ‘soul day’  – བླ་གཟའ  – astrologically. It is  common practice for Tibetans to offer a special puja to His Holiness on Wednesdays in Tibet and India.
