In our daily lives, we are often bombarded by external experiences that show cruelty and heartlessness. The overlay of the Covid pandemic hasn’t helped much as well and then add our relentless addiction to social media. These instances too often contribute to a world that can appear cruel, angry, polarized, and fixated on material gain. Anxiety, depression, and stagnation follow, and as a result, many of us harden our hearts and fall into judgment, blame of self or others, or simply numbing out. By responding in this way, an authentic flow of who we really are, and our inter-connectedness gets blocked and a negative ruminating mind takes over.
The good news is there’s a way out of this cycle! Using mindfulness, self-compassion and meditation techniques, we can bring presence, clarity, compassion, joy and connection back into our lives.
In these ongoing Monday evenings twice each month, Ven. Amy Miller will help us explore how being present with our pain, fear, aversion and moving with kindness through these less than comfortable mind states is the key to transformation. Open to all levels. Drop in whenever you can.
ABOUT VENERABLE AMY
Amy J. Miller (Ven. Lobsang Chodren) first encountered Buddhism in 1987 at Kopan Monastery in Nepal and has been ordained since 2000. She has spent a great deal of time engaged in meditation retreats, study, teaching, and Buddhist center management and lived at Land of Medicine Buddha in 1992. Prior to studying Buddhism, Amy was a political fundraiser in Washington, DC and also worked for Mother Jones Magazine in San Francisco, California. She also trained as a hospice counselor during the peak of the AIDS epidemic in San Francisco and offers courses and retreats on death and dying and end-of-life care.
Amy also leads pilgrimages to Buddhist sites. The next trip will be a trek in the spring of 2023 to Lawudo Retreat Center in the Mount Everest region of Nepal. A 3-day retreat will be included along with a visit to Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s birthplace. See her website below for more information.
