Lha Bab Du Chen

  • A brief talk
  • An abbreviated Shakyamuni Buddha Puja

Shakyamuni Buddha’s mother passed away soon after giving birth, so she was not around when he manifested enlightenment and established the Dharma in this world. So, at a certain point in his teaching career, Lord Buddha went to visit his mother in the heaven – a temporary higher rebirth – where she was living, in order to teach her. So here we have an instance of Repaying the Kindness of the Mother, a form of expressing gratitude.

Then, what about those who were left on Earth at that time? How desperate for them that the Buddha had left. And how fortunate for them, and for us, that he returned and continued to teach for many years. And so this holiday is a chance for us to express our thanks to Lord Buddha for taking care of us by teaching the Dharma.

There will be a big group in the main building, so we’ll be up in the Wish Fulfilling Temple up top.
