An introduction to Buddhism, Opening the Eye of New Awareness, is a text written by the Dalai Lama in 1963, completed four years after his escape from Tibet. Unlike the other books which are edited transcripts of His Holiness' public talks and discourses, this book is His Holiness' own summation of the Buddhist doctrine.

His Holiness writes: "Therefore, in accordance with the merit of those beings who do not have the leisure to study the great texts, profound and full of impack, I write this, Opening the Eyes of New Awareness, a treatise of few words, primarily for easy comprehension, expanding the illumination of the wisdom that thoroughly differentiates phenomena."

Gen Wangdu will be giving an explanation of the topics discussed by His Holiness, including the two truths, three scriptural collections, higher trainings for liberation etc.
